Downloads
Both programs are free for anyone to use, for any purpose. They run on 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11, entirely on your own computer.
Your documents never leave your computer. Nothing is uploaded or stored anywhere else.
WCopyfind 6.0.2
Compares documents with each other to find the phrases they share.
WCopyfind-6.0.2-win-x64.zip · 1.4 MB · released September 24, 2026
Installing
- Download the .zip file for the program you want.
- Unzip it. In File Explorer, right-click the file and choose Extract All. You'll get the program, a README, and the license.
- Double-click the program (
WCopyfind.exeorWRepeatfind.exe). There's nothing to install. You can keep it anywhere, such as your Desktop or Documents folder.
If Windows says "Windows protected your PC", click More info and then Run anyway. Windows shows this warning for programs that haven't paid for a code-signing certificate, which free programs often haven't. The programs are open source: anyone can read exactly what they do on GitHub.
Sample documents
New to the programs? These small sets of documents show what each one finds in about a minute.
- WCopyfind samples: six short student essays and an encyclopedia article, with some copying planted in them
- WRepeatfind samples: a news article with accidental repetition, and a three-chapter story
Reading PDF files
Both programs read PDF files best with the help of pdftotext.exe, a free converter from the Xpdf command-line tools. Download the Windows version, find pdftotext.exe inside (in the bin64 folder), and put it in the same folder as WCopyfind or WRepeatfind. They'll use it automatically. PDFs that are only pictures of pages (scans) contain no text to read; run them through OCR software first.
Source code and older versions
- Source code on GitHub, under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or later. Every release is tagged, back to WCopyfind 4.1.5.
- WCopyfind 5.0.0, the previous version, for anyone who prefers it
- All releases on GitHub
- Older WCopyfind versions (2.7 through 4.1.5) and Copyfind, the command-line version
Mac and Linux
The programs are written for Windows. Mac and Linux users have run WCopyfind successfully with Wine, or in a Windows virtual machine.
